10 virtual activities to try with your friends on Fridays
Is #TGIF still a thing? I have no idea but whether your answer is a yes or a no, name a better day of the week to unwind, relax and host a fun night than a Friday?
But you might not have the opportunity to be in the same room with your friends.
I mean, it could be raining, you could be living miles away from one another or you might just want to stay indoors thinking of all the excuses you can muster for not attending that outing you were invited to.
That shouldn’t stop the fun and it’s exactly why we’ve compiled a list of 10 fun activities to do with friends virtually on a Friday or any day for that matter.
10 virtual activities to try with your friends on Fridays
1. Watch movies in real-time

This one is easy. Pick a movie to watch. Speaking from experience, that could take more time than expected.
You have to match movie tastes and other recommendations, argue about what interests you, and all of that but when you finally pick one.
Watch in real-time. That means you all can watch the movie at the same time while on a call so you give comments and see your expressions like you would if you were watching a movie together in real life.
2. Play an online game
From Call Of Duty to Scrabble Go, there is a wide variety of online games you can play with your friends from wherever you are. All you have to do is settle on what game and share that with whoever you would like to join.
Here’s a list of online games you can pick from.
3. Write letters to one another
Hear me out; take out a notepad or even the notes app on your fun.
Pick a particular date in the future and write a letter that can only be opened then.
Another way to do this is to pick a memory you’d like to make with your friends and write a letter that can only be opened when you have made that memory.
For example, if you’ve always wanted to dance in public with a friend, write them a letter saying how much this means to you and how you’re a better dancer than them and open this letter the day you finally dance in public with them.
4. Play trivia
Test one another’s knowledge on topics ranging from geography to harry potter or even 90s love songs.
You can make these questions yourselves and ask each other or you can find some on the internet. To make it all the more appealing, tie a prize to this.
5. The laugh challenge
This activity is simple. All you have to do is find the most ridiculous jokes, I’m talking uncle jokes or clever puns, get on a group call with your friends (preferably a video call) and take turns trying to make everyone else laugh.
The more they laugh, the more points you get. Sounds fun, eh?
6. Play scavenger hunt
Saw this on a Kevin Hart TV show once. Basically, someone has a list of riddles that each point to items that can be found in any house.
And the others have to figure it out find that item in their home, bring it to their tables and yell ‘found’.
For instance, here’s a riddle for you - It has got a car But no wheels. It has got a pet But no fleas. (Source). The answer - A carpet.
If anyone figures it out, they have to find a carpet and either bring it to their table or take their phones (with the camera, of course. You’re on a video call) and point to it.
You can make your own riddles or find them online.
7. Karaoke
Yes, you can sing karaoke virtually.
All you have to do is make a playlist of songs, preferably on YouTube so you can have lyric videos, hop on a Zoom call with your friends and take turns sharing your screen and singing along.
8. Practice TikTok dances
Or any dance routine at all just like you would when you’re with one another. Take it one step at a time, considering that there might be a lag on the call, and get your groove on.
9. Travel virtually
Thanks to the power of technology and AI and the creativity, courage, and kindness of photo and video journalists/ explorers all over the world, we can now travel virtually.
Do you know what’s better than saying ‘God-when’ and taking screenshots of a place you want to visit? Actually visiting. But the second-best thing is traveling virtually. Trust me.
VR headsets, interactive 360-degree videos, and virtual tours. All you have to do is check whether there’s a virtual tour of the place you’ll like to visit online, share and go there with all your friends.
10. Make a time capsule
A time capsule according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary is ”a container holding historical records or objects representative of current culture that is deposited (as in a cornerstone) for preservation until discovery by some future age”.
What you want to do is get a box, a sealable bag, an old-school lunch box, anything like that, and make a list of items or belongings that bring back memories or represent them or items that you want your friends to remember in years to come.
The next thing you want to do is find these items and drop them into this box that you would keep closed for as long as you want.
Which of these activities would you be trying with your friends this Friday or any other day?
