Clothing That Tells Our Story

Expert Tips for Fabric Care

At Serah Kassim, we embrace the beauty of traditional craftsmanship, and our Batik designs are no exception. This hand-dyed fabric is renowned for its intricate patterns and vibrant colors, created through a meticulous process where wax is applied to the fabric and followed by dyeing, resulting in unique designs that blend artistry with heritage.

Each Batik piece is a true reflection of culture, offering a one-of-a-kind creation that tells a personal story through its colors and patterns. Made from great cotton blends, these fabrics are not only breathable and soft but also versatile, perfect for every season, whether it's the heat of summer or the cool embrace of fall.

Our Batik designs are more than just fabric; they are wearable art, bringing the essence of craftsmanship into your wardrobe. With Serah Kassim, every piece is designed to offer both timeless beauty and a modern aesthetic, making it a meaningful addition to your collection.

Fabric Composition:

  • Primary Material: Cotton blends
  • Weight: Medium
  • Texture: Soft, breathable, with a slight stiffness that becomes more comfortable after a few washes

Care Instructions:

To ensure your Serah Kassim Batik piece remains vibrant and pristine for years, follow these simple yet essential care tips:

  1. Washing:
    • Hand Wash Recommended: Gently hand wash in cold water with mild detergent to preserve the colors and fabric integrity.
    • Machine Wash: If you prefer machine washing, use a gentle cycle with cold water and place the fabric in a mesh laundry bag to minimize friction and prevent fading.
  2. Drying:
    • Air Dry: Lay flat or hang the fabric to air dry, out of direct sunlight, to preserve the vivid colors.
    • Avoid Tumble Drying: High heat can damage the fabric’s fibers and affect the dye’s brilliance.
  3. Ironing:
    • Iron on a medium heat setting, and always on the reverse side of the fabric to maintain the integrity of the design.
    • If you prefer a softer look, steam ironing is an excellent alternative for a more relaxed finish.
  4. Storage:
    • Store your Batik items in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight to prevent the colors from fading.
    • For long-term storage, protect the fabric from dust and moisture by using garment bags.

Important Notes:

  • Color Variations: Because each piece is hand-dyed, slight variations in color and pattern are to be expected. This makes every item uniquely yours and highlights the personal touch behind each creation.
  • First Wash: You may notice some dye may come off during the first wash. This is normal and a part of the hand-dye process. We recommend washing your Batik pieces separately to avoid color transfer.

By following these care instructions, your Serah Kassim Batik fabric will stay vibrant, beautiful, and full of life, allowing you to enjoy this rich cultural craftsmanship for years to come.

Product Manufacturing & Batik: Handcrafted with Pride in Lagos, Nigeria

At Serah Kassim, we celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Africa through our manufacturing and Batik processes. All of our products are proudly crafted in Lagos, Nigeria, where we collaborate with skilled artisans who bring our designs to life using the age-old art of Batik.

Product Manufacturing:
Our garments are carefully produced in Lagos, Nigeria, a city known for its vibrant textile industry. We work with local artisans and manufacturers who combine traditional craftsmanship with modern production methods, ensuring every piece is made to perfection. From sourcing high-quality fabrics to the intricate tailoring of each garment, we emphasize sustainability, attention to detail, and cultural authenticity in every step of the manufacturing process.

Batik Process:
Our unique Batik designs are created using a traditional hand-dyeing technique that has been passed down through generations. Batik involves applying wax to fabric before dyeing, which creates intricate patterns and designs that are as much a work of art as they are fabric. Each piece is individually crafted, resulting in one-of-a-kind prints that reflect the creativity and craftsmanship of Nigerian artisans. This handmade process allows for the creation of vibrant, striking patterns that carry the essence of African storytelling, making every item not only a fashion statement but also a piece of culture. By choosing Lagos as the heart of our manufacturing and Batik process, we ensure that every Serah Kassim garment embodies the spirit of Nigerian artistry and craftsmanship, with a focus on sustainability and supporting local artisans.
